DESCRIPTION
The Commodity Manager is responsible for developing an export best value supply base to support the global business operations for assigned commodities within the heavy equipment product portfolio, managing turnkey suppliers, and implementing an India-specific sourcing strategies to support India aftermarket parts and services. This position plays a key role in building a cost-competitive, export-ready India supply base and managing supplier relationships to support OEM builds and aftermarket demand. The Commodity Manager will partner with engineering, operations, and quality teams to drive supplier performance, ensure continuity of supply, and achieve cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
India Sourcing Strategy
• Develop and implement India-specific sourcing strategies in alignment with global commodity goals for assigned categories such as fabricated structures, hydraulics, castings, powertrain components, and electrical systems.
• Drive global sourcing initiatives in partnership with the strategic sourcing team, ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide processes.
• Identify, qualify, and develop India-based suppliers capable of meeting global heavy equipment standards.
• Lead RFQ processes, negotiate commercial terms, and deliver year-over-year cost savings while safeguarding quality and service.
• Analyze market trends, cost drivers, and supplier capacity to ensure competitive advantage and supply continuity.
Supplier Relationship Management
• Lead commercial and contractual negotiations with turnkey and component suppliers to meet cost, quality, and delivery targets.
• Build and sustain strategic supplier partnerships through performance reviews, joint improvement plans, and long-term development roadmaps.
• Monitor and improve supplier KPIs including on-time delivery, quality, cost reduction, and responsiveness. Lead commercial negotiations with turnkey suppliers & component suppliers to achieve cost, quality, and delivery objectives
• Lead contract negotiations for assigned categories and manage renewals
• Establish and manage strategic supplier relationships through performance reviews, joint improvement initiatives, and long-term development plans.
• Track key input cost drivers and market dynamics, develop countermeasures, and maintain robust cost models.
• Provide deep category expertise and stay abreast of emerging technologies, processes, and industry best practices.
Equipment Project Build Leadership
• Support the RFI bidding process by Leading in-country and turnkey supplier quoting and commercial terms to support global equipment builds through India
• Ensure supply plans are established for critical parts in alignment with the ProLaunch 85 process.
• Manage turnkey supplier performance to meet budget, timeline, and delivery expectations.
• Oversee critical part sourcing through the Critical Part Management (CPM) process to ensure alignment with project milestones.
• Partner with engineering, operations, and logistics teams to synchronize sourcing plans with production schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Supply chain Management, business, engineering, finance, or related field
Experience:
• Minimum 7-8 [DM1.1]years sourcing experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or commodity management, preferably in manufacturing or heavy equipment sectors
• Experience with large steel fabrication, castings, hydraulics, or electrical systems
• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in developing, negotiating, and implementing complex contracts with global contract manufacturers
• Strong background working cross-functionally with multiple functions that drive business outcomes
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Global sourcing and localization strategies: Understanding how to adapt global commodity plans to India’s supplier landscape.
• Supplier qualification and development: Familiarity with ISO standards, audits, and onboarding processes.
• Cost modeling and market analysis: Ability to analyze input cost drivers, forecast trends, and build should-cost models.
• Contract negotiation and compliance: Deep knowledge of long-term contracts, legal terms, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Category management: Expertise in managing spend across specific commodities like fabricated structures, hydraulics, or powertrain components
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to generate compelling and powerful PowerPoint presentations
