Job Title: Quality Engineer Intern

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
As a Supply Chain Intern, you will get broad exposure to our Quality Engineering organization and leadership team. Our interns gain invaluable job experience, career development and leadership opportunities. You will receive both technical and leadership training to enhance your skill set. Interns work with cross-functional teams to drive performance improvements and receive a great introduction to our collaborative, fun and engaging culture. Interns will identify, work on, and present a project that will benefit you as well as the plant facility and our organization. This position is administrative support driven. It collaborates with all parties in the Quality Engineering department, and performs functions, and ensuring products, processes, and systems meet established quality standards and customer requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Functional & Technical Skills
- Assist in the review and analysis of Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and corrective actions.
- Support root cause analysis and problem-solving activities using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, or Pareto Charts.
- Participate in supplier quality activities, including reviewing supplier documentation and assisting with incoming inspection processes.
- Assist in the development, review, and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, and templates.
- Support the collection and analysis of quality metrics (e.g., defect rates, first-pass yield, rework percentage).
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen events).
- Assist in preparation for internal and external audits (ISO 9001 or other applicable standards).
- Document findings and prepare reports or presentations for the Quality team and leadership.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- >3.0 cumulative overall GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale).
- Currently a full-time student, junior status or higher pursuing a Bachelor’s in Engineering, or related business discipline.
- The individual shall also have completed the “core” coursework for his/her chosen discipline.
- Strong initiative and ability to in teams and individually without direct supervision.
- Proficient in basic computer programs/business software: Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Must be willing to relocate in commutable distance to Hamel, MN from approximately June–August 2025 and able to work for a minimum of 11 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Resourceful and innovative in finding solutions to ambiguous problems.
- Self-starter with ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong commitment to a career in Quality Engineering in a manufacturing company.
- Demonstrated analytic approach to problem-solving.
- Knowledge of LEAN or Continuous Improvement practices.
- Leadership experience in student groups, volunteer experience & related extracurriculars.
- Prior work on projects in a team environment (relevant academic projects and/or previous internship experience).
