GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Manager of Learning and Development, the Learning and Development Specialist is responsible for assessing and evaluating identified performance gaps to determine people and/or process issues and define efficient and effective approaches to fill the gaps. This role will also develop continuous learning methodologies for measurable behavioral and performance changes and participate in strategy and development of performance improvement programs, including deliverables and measurements. Additionally, the Learning and Development Specialist will measurably improve behaviors, performance, and competencies utilizing assessments and designing development programs applying multiple methodologies in order to achieve defined results for client groups.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Functional and Technical Skills
- Manage project activities, mitigate risks, manage scope changes, and ensure the completion of phases and deliverables
- Translate developmental requirements into learning objectives that will enable employees to continuously progress competencies to improve performance and behaviors in current and future positions
- Produce handouts, videos, instructional materials, aids, and manuals that deliver an engaging learner experience with instructional designers
- Apply critical thinking skills to conduct data analysis to recommend content development for all levels of the organization
- Implement integration of relevant content from internal and external content sources to ensure learning meets the needs of the organization and fulfils the regulatory requirements
Customer Support
- Cultivate and manage external providers, contractors, and internal partner relationships to establish timelines, facilitate content review and feedback, adopt and implement changes, and impact business
- Manage the delivery of structured learning experiences and monitor and quantify their quality results including providing feedback to stakeholders regarding trainee performance
- Create and execute communication plans to support the implementation of new and ongoing development initiatives
Strategic and Functional
- Collaborate to source, develop, enhance, edit, reformat, and validate content by working as an integral member of the Learning and Development team to share best practices and identify opportunities for improvement
- Identify development needs by evaluating performance and/or process gaps and build learning programs and prepare learning plans
- Assess learning effectiveness through short-term and long-term measurements and evaluations
- Support the Learning and Development team with change management plans including communications, trainings, stakeholder engagement, and impact analysis
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Education, Business, Training or related field
Experience: 3+ years of learning and development experience, in technical training delivery, facilitation, development, or related field.
In lieu of education 7+ years of equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and working experience with learning management systems (LMS) and content management systems
- Knowledge of instructional design theory and learning principles
- Knowledge of project management concept, techniques, tools and best practices
- Prior experience assisting in the development of presentations to key leaders in the organization
- Experience working with high level executives
- Familiarity with traditional and modern adult learning methods, tools and techniques, and their application
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to conduct cost-benefit analysis and calculate training ROI
- Sound decision making and organizational skills
- Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences
- Ability to master the full development cycle
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Licenses/Certifications: ATD Certification or similar professional certification
Education: Master’s degree in Human Resource Development or similar field
