GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
The Senior Compliance and Certification Engineer secures new and maintains existing railway equipment certifications/ approvals. This position will use technical expertise in global regulatory requirements to maintain and improve Loram’s vehicle authorization efficiency and lead processes related to product quality, safety, reliability, and security.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Product Assurance Oversight
- Lead global regulation and standards compliance for every step of the product lifecycle, which would include product development, proposal generation, production, and operations.
- Evaluate and communicate changes to global standards and regulations affecting Loram’s business, including anticipation of industry trends or Loram market expansion that could lead to compliance risk.
- Identify and build relationships with standards development organizations to positively influence industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Support proposal generation activities with minimal oversight, including technical specification review, scope of work creation, project definition creation, and specification of Verification and Validation plans.
- Identify and implement process improvements that increase vehicle authorization efficiency while maintaining product quality, safety and product reliability.
- Provide technical support for production projects by ensuring equipment meets customer requirements, standards, codes, and regulations, including involvement in verification and validation testing activities.
Compliance
- Create and manage product regulation and standards compliance registers and collaborate with approvals bodies to gain authorization and resolve disputes.
- Gather and defend compliance evidence issued to assessment bodies to secure vehicle authorization.
- Participate in and facilitate risk management activities for product safety, reliability, and security.
- Manage hazard/risk registers to ensure design, maintenance, and operational risk mitigations are implemented or residual risk is properly transferred.
- Work with all project team members to meet project RAMS requirements and applicable standards & regulations. This includes undertaking mentoring and teaching activities as needed to strengthen Loram’s understanding of legal framework and safety engineering principles.
- Assist with forecasting and controlling vehicle authorization costs to meet budget.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelors Degree in Engineering
Experience: 5+ years of experience
Licenses/Certifications: Ability to maintain railroad safety training and certifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Understand the principles of engineering risk management
- Understand the principles of product compliance
Software: Microsoft Office Suite
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Functional Safety Engineer Certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in risk management, such as, CENELEC EN5012x or Common Safety Method Regulation for Risk Evaluation and Assessment
- Previous experience in product safety and regulatory compliance activities.
