GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The Technical Communications Manager is responsible for organizing, developing, and leading all aspects of their engineering discipline. This position focuses on the structuring and operation of the group to ensure they function as an efficient and cohesive unit; the conceptualizing and day-to-day management of simultaneous projects; delivering quality content to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints while also working to create more efficient and innovative processes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Leadership and Talent Development

  • Lead, manage, and supervise internal and external Technical Communications resources.
  • Create and implement technical and personal development plans for personnel.

Operational Excellence

  • Develop and ensure standardization and best practices for Technical Communications content creation, storage, and delivery.
  • Ensure the group achieves objectives and project completion within specified budget and time frame.
  • Partner with engineering, safety, and marketing teams to plan and deliver product documentation on-time and on-budget.
  • Promote environment of continuous improvement of processes and documentation to continuously improve throughput, content creation efficiencies, and product quality.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: BS in Scientific Technical Communication or related area

Experience: 8+ years’ experience leading technical communication teams or department including budget and personnel performance management. Experience with desktop publishing and illustration software including Adobe products (FrameMaker, Illustrator, Acrobat).

Licenses/Certifications: Obtain and maintain railroad safety training and credentials

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of business software including MS Office suite.
  • Collaborate with others to clarify requirements and develop solutions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Licenses/Certification: Six Sigma Green or Black Belt

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiar with Component Content Management Systems, preferably DITA/XML.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Office deskwork, requiring sitting, walking, using phone & computer
  • May lift up to 30 lbs. occasionally
  • Up to 5% travel, including international
  • Can tolerate variable and sometimes challenging conditions during visits or inspections of company equipment in a railroad environment

Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation. 

Starting pay for the position is between $97,040.00 – $121,300.00.
