GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
The role of Quality Engineer I is to develop, deploy, and monitor quality processes while influencing improvement opportunities across the Loram Value Streams. The Quality Engineer oversees Loram Verification, Validation, and Non-Conformance systems ensuring compliance to Loram’s drawings, applicable standards and customer value while optimizing the cost of Quality.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Quality Processes
- Support ISO 9001 Quality Management System and process requirements.
- Support zero defect mentality through implementation of feedback loops and prevention activities.
- Ability to understand and facilitate organizational benefit through quality strategies and decisions that support best in class products, processes, and services.
- Identify non-conforming materials and workmanship, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective short and long-term corrective actions.
- Lead interactions both internally and externally to drive quality improvements that reduce the reoccurrence of non-conformances.
- Participate and/or lead continuous improvement initiatives. Write and submit reports as required for audits, inspections, rejects, root cause, etc. Ensure Corrective and Preventive Action plans are developed and executed.
Quality Management
- Track and report the status and progress of verification and validation systems.
- Develop and submit cross functional summaries/reports on opportunities through yield analysis.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing functions, ensuring assembly quality meets or exceeds key performance indicators, applicable standards, governing codes and regulations.
- Interface with Engineering, Contract Services, Manufacturing, Sourcing, and Customer Service to drive Quality improvements that minimize the costs of Quality.
- Attend product reviews and cross functional meetings to ensure quality checkpoints are built into the value stream.
- Serve as a neutral liaison by looking after customer interests such as impacts to safety, reliability, environment, work conditions, duty-cycle, manufacturability, etc.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering, Business or related field
Experience: 1+ year manufacturing, operations, design, supply chain, quality or regulatory assurance
Licenses/Certifications: Ability to obtain and maintain Railroad Certifications, Six Sigma Green Belt or higher, American Society for Quality (ASQ) – Member and Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- A working knowledge of railroads, transportation, heavy construction, or combination.
- Knowledge of or ability to quickly become familiar with Railroad products and services, particularly pertaining to maintenance of track and structures.
- Knowledge of computers and software with good analytical and word processing skills using Microsoft applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Advanced degree in Engineering or Business
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- ISO9000, Six Sigma, Lean and MRP/ERP systems.
- Effective problem solving, root-cause analytical skills to lead and influence others to drive change (cross-functionally and globally).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
