About the Role:
Reporting to the Head of Operations as a senior leader in the role of Manager, Fleet Operations, you will lead and oversee a group of machines across multiple contracts. You will also guide and support a team of Assistant Managers and Superintendents. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining high safety standards, ensuring fleet operational excellence, optimising the performance and reliability of our machines. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams and customers. You’ll drive continuous improvement in both the operational and financial performance of our operations.
This senior role offers a dynamic work environment, leading diverse teams to achieve exceptional customer service and operational outcomes. Your leadership will be integral in fostering a culture of safety, excellence, high performance, delivering superior service and results.
Key Responsibilities:
• Safety and Operational Excellence: Ensure 100% safety compliance and promote continuous improvement in safety culture across the team. Oversee fleet equipment maintenance, ensuring machines operate at peak performance levels (98% availability).
• Leadership & Talent Development: Lead, as well as mentor Assistant Managers, Superintendents, and crew members. Ensure compliance with training requirements and personal development plans for the team.
• Business & Financial Management: Oversee P&L statements, budgeting, and forecasting activities. Monitor key performance indicators and report on operations to stakeholders. Maintain authorised machine inventory levels and manage resource allocation.
• Customer Relationship Management: Foster strong relationships with customer contacts, ensuring service expectations are met and resolving any issues promptly. Act as the key point of contact for managing service quality and expectations.
• Operational Communication: Guide and maintain the consistent delivery of corporate messages. Provide clear reports and ensure adherence to operational practices and safety rules. Address incident reports and corrective actions effectively.
Skills & Experience Required:
• Proven leadership experience managing large, complex fleets and teams within a high-demand, 24/7 operational environment.
• Strong background in operations, with an in-depth understanding of preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment performance improvement.
• A deep understanding of business operations, including financial management, forecasting, and KPI analysis.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to manage cross-functional teams and build lasting customer relationships.
• Ability to work under pressure, make decisions quickly, and lead teams to deliver consistent, high-quality results.
• Experience in the mining, rail, or heavy machinery industries is highly preferred.
