We are looking to provisionally hold an assessment day week commencing 22 June 2026.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
The Apprentice position provides a positive way to fill skills gaps and provide vocational succession planning, creating an environment to nurture and grow talent, pathing the way for skilled workers which Loram UK require for the future growth of the business.
To undertake an advanced apprenticeship scheme as an Apprentice, leading to a nationally recognised qualification and accreditation.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
Functional & Technical Skills
- Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff.
- To be able to demonstrate these skills and processes as the training period progresses by working independently or with a team, to undertake tasks as instructed and increasing overall contribution to the department.
- To become proficient in reading and accurately interpreting drawings, technical specifications and work instructions.
- Develop a full understanding of the set-up and maintenance required for machinery and plant.
- Develop an ability to operate various items of workshop machinery such as guillotine, band saws, press brakes, drills etc.
- Fitting and assembly skills including the use of hand tools and marking out
- Use of data to understand machine issues.
- Carrying out such tasks and duties as directed by Production Managers and identified mentors within the business that are calculated to contribute to the requisite levels of performance and competence.
Safety Focus
- Contribute to a healthy and safe working environment; work to the HSE-approved codes of practice.
- To maintain and to ensure general good housekeeping of the workplace.
Compliance
- To maintain a logbook throughout the apprenticeship period, recording projects that have been undertaken and the skills learned.
- Attendance at the designated College chosen by the company on a day-release basis leading to recognised NVQ qualifications over the agreed learning period.
- To maintain a smart appearance and to always act professionally whether on or off Loram UK premises.
- Regular presentations demonstrating the application of work-based learning.
- Attendance to be no less than 98%.
- Attend review meetings with your mentor.
- Satisfactory sign-off against Loram UK’s Competence Assessments.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: GCSE Maths & English Grade C/4 (or equivalent).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Full training will be provided.
- To work towards and be assessed as competent in relevant/appropriate Loram UK competence management modules or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in relevant mechanical/technical subject.
