DESCRIPTION
GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
The Technician maintains, repairs and overhauls railway vehicles and associated equipment in accordance with applicable standards, procedures, specifications, and instructions.
This may include special processes and/or skills, for example, painting, welding, vehicle lifting, etc.
This will involve working to a 7-day roster which shall include afternoons/nights, bank holidays and weekend shifts as required. The roster will also include an on-call element.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
Functional & Technical
- Carry out maintenance, repair, overhaul and manufacturing activity on rail vehicles and associated machinery, plant and equipment in accordance with specifications and to an acceptable standard.
- Investigate faults and failures, identify trends and perform effective repairs, efficiently and with minimal disruption to other activities.
- Read and accurately interpret drawings, technical specifications and work instructions.
- Work in accordance with applicable targets
- Maintain general knowledge of working systems and variations.
- Carry out assessment of material requiring overhaul by third parties.
- Ensure good housekeeping (cleanliness and tidiness of working environment).
- Demonstrate a pro-active approach to Continuous Improvements initiatives.
- Undertake maintenance, repair and overhaul work at remote locations.
Compliance
- Work in accordance with company systems and procedures.
- Comply with all safety, quality and environmental systems and responsibilities, including OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001 & ISO 14001.
- Participate in competency assessment programs as required.
- Recording full, complete and accurate details of work performed.
Strategic and Functional Processes
- Achieve required levels of productivity, quality and delivery.
- Work at remote locations as required.
- Provide on-call support as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: GCSE Maths & English Grade C/4 (or equivalent).
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in relevant mechanical/technical subject.
Experience: Minimum 6 months experience in a similar/relevant Traction & Rolling Stock engineering environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Recognised Train the Trainer/Assessor Qualification (holds or is willing to work towards).
Experience: To hold/be assessment as competent in relevant/appropriate Loram UK competence management modules or equivalent.
