GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
The Director, Fleet Operations is responsible for all aspects of operating and maintaining the company-owned fleet of contract service equipment. This position provides leadership and support to the Operations team and develops organizational habits that ensure the company operates all track maintenance services in a safe, reliable and cost-effective manner, while balancing total cost of ownership decisions with required financial results.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Leadership and Talent Development
- Responsible for staff career planning, development of effective training programs, leadership development within Operations, and establishing L&D priorities that are tied to business outcomes.
- Define and standardize key milestones in leader/manager journeys and orchestrate comprehensive learning experiences to steer our leaders and managers along those journeys.
- Oversee day-to-day support for senior-level management in the development, implementation, and maintenance of regulatory compliance programs for Operations.
Safety and Operational Excellence
- Responsible for leading and overseeing the operational activities of multiple business units that operate 24/7/365 throughout North America.
- Proactively plan, direct, develop, and implement a strategic direction of the organization’s operational department, operational efficiencies and cost-effective systems that will maximize the company’s performance in meeting customer expectations and the organization’s financial goals.
- Provides expertise and guidance on operations projects, processes, and systems, including the development and deployment of new services and entering new marketing on the global stage.
- Develop and monitor appropriate leading and lagging metrics to measure the effectiveness of processes and identify areas for corrective action and/or continuous improvements.
- Responsible for the overall safety of the operation and maintains a culture of safety across assigned business units to ensure employees maintain safe working practices by working closely with internal departments to implement strategies to improve safety.
Business and Financial Management
- Manage the development of controls, and detailed analyses to monitor Operations performance including division P&L, forecasting, and capital improvements.
- Manage the planning, development, and preparation of departmental budgets throughout the annual financial planning process.
- Develops, coordinates, and manages external relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers that optimize operational and financial efficiencies to maintain an awareness of the market and changing customer expectations that drive profitability, increase returns on investment, and mitigate risk.
Communications
- Motivate and inspire excellence through effective written and verbal communications with the executive team, operations leadership team, and other LMW team members.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts on customer railroads to facilitate a healthy environment of continuous improvement and problem-solving.
- Interpret directives from customers and the executive team to create and implement new operating rules, policies, procedures and instructions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in business
Experience:
- 5+ years solid understanding of financial, sales, and marketing as related to product design and development.
- 5+ years’ experience with delivering against customer expectations in a high sense of urgency environment that demands safety, first and foremost, at all times
- 5+ years knowledge of compliance regulations, including railroad safety and transportation requirements.
- 10+ years demonstrated team building leadership skills
- 10 + years general knowledge and understanding of Fleet Operations function along with end-to-end knowledge of LMW’s products, processes, services, market differentiators, and customer relationships.
* Or 10+ years combination of education and experience in field operations
Licenses/Certifications:
- All Railroad Specific Certifications to operate on track
- Loram Operating Rules Certification
- All Loram Required E-Learning, On the Job, and 3rd Party Safety Training
