GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
The Plant Scanner is a stationary inspection system combining X-rays, 3D Laser Profiling systems, and High-Resolution images to inspect railroad ties in customer facilities. The operator will be responsible for maintaining a safe work area around the equipment, servicing the equipment as needed, and operating the equipment as needed. This will require deployment to the customer facilities after an initial training period, and the willingness to work with X-Ray equipment.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure radiation area is safe for employees and general public. Safeguard unqualified personnel from x-ray exposure
- Monitor data flow during the data collection cycle
- Back-up data and stream data to GREX offices as necessary
- Manage and maintain a highly technical data acquisition system
- Troubleshoot and fix equipment and computer problems
- Communicate any problems experienced to engineering in a timely manner
- Produce daily reports to supervisors and internal and external customers
- Interact directly with customers and follow orders from customer representatives
- Attend continuing Company internal and customized training
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Operate the Aurora track inspection data collection system
•Drive a hi-rail vehicle on tracks throughout the USA and operate the image sensing equipment and software with little or no supervision
•May be required to occasionally perform work in other areas within the Company
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
•Possess or ability to obtain a Texas Industrial Radiographer license
•Ability to obtain training needed to be deployed to a customer facility
•Ability to perform well under pressure
•Ability to work with a wide variety of people and personalities
•Ability to take extensive travel assignments of 21-30 days in a row
•Ability to fly to job sites
•Ability to work during weekends if required
•Ability to drive long hours
•Exhibit ethical behavior at all times
•Possession of a valid state driver’s license and insurable by Company insurance carrier
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the Customer.
•High School diploma or GED Equivalent.
•Associates degree, computer or technology background preferred
•Railroad experience a plus, but not required
•Proficiency operating MS Windows applications. Operations of data acquisition systems a plus
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
•Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms
•Required to taste and smell in order to identify potential leaks, worn hoses, belts, etc.
•Frequently required to sit, walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, speak and hear
•Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds or equivalent
•Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
•Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
•Hearing is essential in this position
