GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
The Engineer II, Product is responsible for leading and assisting with activities involving Loram products, including all technical aspects of the products from conceptual design through validation. This role assists the Chief Engineering department to develop, market, and support Loram products. This role is also responsible for supporting and developing equipment design and generating equipment proposals of low to moderate complexity under the direction of a senior engineer or Chief Engineer.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Strategic and Functional
- Generate CAD concept layouts of moderate complexity to assist with proposals and Chief Engineer product vision.
- Support Chief Engineering team in establishing and managing product vision; drive design requirements and competitive differentiators to satisfy market requirements.
- Assist in development of product configuration architecture for various options, variants, and standard components.
- Review competing technologies and implement product improvements and product line extensions.
- Support product and performance improvements with return on investment reasoning and calculations.
Collaboration
- Lead engineering proposal activities of low to moderate complexity, including supporting technical specification compliance responses, scope of work creation, project definition creation, and configuration selection.
- Establish effective cross-functional relationships that improve and promote Loram products and services.
- Support process improvement between engineering disciplines.
- Provide technical guidance in alignment with established product vision to cross functional engineering teams to support production, product support, and new product development.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: BS in Mechanical, Electrical or Software Engineering.
Experience: 3+ years of experience supporting development of equipment design and generating equipment proposals.
Licenses/Certifications: Obtain and maintain railroad safety training and credentials
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of business software including MS Office suite.
- Possess basic understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and control systems for assigned product lines.
- Able to correctly interpret global railway regulations in order to support product vision, proposal generation, and production activities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: 3+ years’ experience with Heavy Equipment Design and product line development with multi-discipline engineering integration. Experience with proposal generation, project scoping and definition, cost estimation. Experience directing individual or small teams of engineers and designers.
Licenses/Certification: Six Sigma Yellow Belt and/or EIT
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Autodesk and ERP software
- Experience defining SW/Control system requirements – PLC’s, HMI – front-end user, not designer
